PILLING

• Small fuzzy balls on knitwear from fibre friction. • Common and not a sign of poor quality. Influenced by fibre length, yarn twist, and knit density.
• Rated from 1 to 5 (poor to good)

DESIGN TIPS (wool)

• Use long fibres.
• High twist factor.
• Dense fabric structure.

PILLING GRADING

CHEMICAL

• Chlorination (smooths fibre surface).
• Resin/polymer finish (reduces friction).
• Enzymatic treatments (eco-friendly surface modification).
• Superwash (chlorination + resin, also machine-washable).

PHYSICAL

• Plasma treatment (surface modification).
• Fulling/milling (tightens fibres).

OTHER FACTORS

• Choose anti-pilling fibres/blends.
• Adjust knitting gauge/tension.
• Care: gentle wash, inside-out, reduce abrasion.

CARE ACCESSORIES

• Fabric combs, electric pill removers.
